Wee Gansey
A little Gansey (Guernsey) sweater in traditional knit and purl patterns with some simple twisted stitches. It has underarm gussets and a buttoned neckband for easy fitting. As most traditional ganseys were made, it is knit in the round from the hem to the armholes, then flat on two needles for the top, with sleeves worked in the round down to the cuff. This makes the whole garment seamless.
The pattern is written in full with additional charts for the stitch patterns, and includes instructions for 3-needle cast off.
It uses a fairly thick DK yarn with approx 100m/110yds per 50 gms: eg Carnival Soft 8ply, or Cascade 220 Superwash or Debbie Bliss Rialto DK. Yarns with a good twist give best stitch definition.
Four sizes to fit approx 1-2 yrs, 3-4 yrs, 5-6 yrs and 7-8 yrs.
Size 1 takes approx 400m/440yds; size 2: 480m/520yds; size 3: 600m/660yds; size 4: 700m/770yds
Intermediate level knitters.
