Wednesday’s V is written for flexibility. Want one pattern for a V-neck pullover, that you can use to configure many different looks and fits? This is how Wednesday’s V is designed. It’s a choose-your-adventure pattern.

Top-down and seamless in its overall construction, Wednesday’s V starts with a flat construction of the broad V opening/yoke. So broad, you’ll think it’s fitted incorrectly. Always-flattering raglan sleeve shaping is featured and offset by small panels of 1x1 half-twisted ribbing. The yoke shaping is set up for all 22 sizes BY PANEL, so if you need a custom fit…it’s easy enough to mix and match on your very own custom shaping table.

After yoke shaping, the V is joined in the same round that the sleeves are separated; then, the body is worked. Those raglan features lead down the side of the body, flanking ribbed side panels that allow for stretch and shaping, beyond any tapering added. Wednesday’s V allows for straight or tapered sides, and ultra-cropped to full length drops. Ribbing of variable depth finishes off the body, and there are two options for that (a chunky 3x2 ribbing, versus a 1x1 half-twisted ribbing).

Sleeves can be knit - straight or tapered - to virtually any desired length, then finished with the same ribbing as the body. The same ribbing seen on the body sides is repeated on the undersleeve to prevent twisting and (again) give a bit of stretch and shaping beyond any tapering added.

The V-trim around the neck is deep and designed to close up the large opening. This does make the neckline adjustable to a certain extent, and again, in either the chunky or thinner ribbing.

Stockinette dominates the design, so I prepared different samples to showcase different configurations. This plain panel is set to feature your favorite yarns! While the original sample was inspired by the hit show “Wednesday” and has a fitted and more parochial wide-stripe appearance, I prepared additional samples that 2) involve cropped shaping and marling with two fingering yarns (trimmed with contrasting mohair ribbing) and 3) feature a boxier fit with monochromatic light-as-a-feather suri. All 3 are Wednesday’s V…but each delivers differently.

And, because the Wednesday’s V is set up for DK weight yarn or a DK equivalence, it works up quickly. The intended gauge is 5 stitches and 6.5 rows per inch, or 20 stitches and 26 rows/rounds per 4 inches/10 cm.

Prior to testing, the estimated yardage needed for one Wednesday’s V (to the hip crest, with long sleeves) is 600-1850 yards. My size being mid-range, I consistently used about 800-900 yards of DK or DK-equivalent yarn per sample (fingering held double = twice as much). More to come after testing, but:
1. Striped sample (size 7) used only 3.5 skeins (492 yards of black, 307 yards of the purple) of Sugarplum Circus Charlotte DK;
2) Marled sample (size 9 worked owing to a gauge difference) used 1.5 skeins (600 yards of Hedgehog Skinny singles and 700 yards of light fingering weight yak yarn, held together) for the body and about 325 yards (60 grams, 650 yards of laceweight held double) of mohair for the cuffs; and
3) Monochromatic pink/red sample (size 8) used 125 grams (3.5 skeins/850 yards) of Trilogy Yarns Suri.
