Waystone Mitts
Intended to be worn with -1 to 1” positive ease
Size 8”/20cm modeled on 7”/18 cm hand with 1”/2.5 cm positive ease. Please note that due to the thickness of brioche fabric, the exterior circumference is larger than the interior circumference
The car keys jingled in unison with the sleigh bell dangling off the front door. As the lock clicked, the new Christmas wreath tremored slightly with the movement. So very much to do today. Despite the heavy cloud cover it was resolutely bright outside. No snow had yet fallen but the 20 degree air was as sharp as the thin layer of white frost filagree that danced intricately over everything. Small rainbows glittered from the crystals, catching the light, momentarily joyous. Despite all this fantastical winter beauty, today held in its impatient hands a laundry list two miles long (that also, ironically, included laundry). She slid into the cold car, thankful that the fabric of her mitts was so thick as the engine turned over. Her favorite audiobook began playing automatically. It’d be a good 5 minutes before the cabin warmed. A small fabric bag held her knitting- just in case- as she drove her slightly dirty used car along familiar roads leading downtown. The wreaths and lights were up, and it was all so unbearably cozy that the errands actually felt important, slightly special. She smiled at an open parking spot and found her way into her favorite cafe, the lightweight antique doors slamming too loudly (as always). A large coffee, paper cup, nothing fancy. Half decaf, half flavor of the day, she balanced the cup in one hand, keys and bag in the other, and mentally checked off the first thing on her list.
These mitts are worked in the round from the bottom up. They incorporate 2 brioche moves but no brioche increases or decreases and are very accessible. They are an ideal beginner brioche pattern! Please weave in ends very carefully as they are fully reversible.
Matching hat is in testing now and will release next!
This photoshoot will be the first in my series of knitwear featuring everyday life- the mundane, wonderful things we do daily in our knitwear that make up our life rhythms. I hope you like it!
