Wartime Fingerless Gloves
This pattern is
available for free.
This pattern is one I heavily adapted from the anonymous “Knitted Comforts For Servicemen” leaflet, published during WW2 in England, by Leech-Way Yarns. The original version can be found here.
I am using a heavier weight wool, and fundamentally chanegd the method of working the thumb and fingers. The end result looks pretty well the same, but is made quite differently.
I used one size needles throughout, and improvised by adding in a stripe of another colour of 5 ply Guernsey yarn.
There are no charts to follow, and I have simplified the construction.
