Wallpaper socks are knitted toe-up and they incorporate a deep gusset for a proper fit. The sock design has reinforced (and reversed) Dutch heel which includes a heel flap and a heel turn. The construction is almost identical to a cuff to toe sock construction but they´re knitted toe-up because the ornamental rib pattern “grows” upwards.

The decorative rib pattern is actually very easy but it does require some tricks: on every 4th round two loops are picked up through round further below and knit together with working stitches.

Wallpaper socks are designed for semi-solid fingering weight sock yarn. The rib pattern is more visible with yarns with lighter shade. If you want socks with vintage feel, go for hand dyed pastel colorway such as Aara Yarn´s “Pisara”, “Ilta” or “Väre”.

The design was inspired by a wallpaper I saw in a home museum. At the time I was thinking about casting on a new pair of socks that would be easy project to travel with and knit in company. I wanted to have some “frills” but knit without charts and that´s how I developed this pattern.
