The Waldron hat is a cap with options—narrow band or deep; short, mid, or slouchy crown. All versions feature a doubled band of 2 x 2 rib for extra warmth over the ears and a decorative crown with a seven-point gather. This design is named for one of the islands in our archipelago and for one of our first shepherding mentors, who likes to roll his wool caps all the way above his ears.

The hat is worked in the round from a provisional cast-on. The ribbed band is knit to double height and folded in half, and then the cast-on edge is united with the live stitches. The rest of the hat is worked in stockinette stitch and the decorative decreases use tiny cables to create a ring of subtle tree-like motifs at the crown.
