Vortex Hat
Knitting Nuance patterns are designed to introduce new or modified knitting techniques and the Vortex Hat has three. Take a closer look and you’ll notice the spiral design sits up on the front of the smooth stockinette. That’s because they use our new Showy Decrease, a modification of the k2tog decrease that adds height and texture to stockinette. These raised diagonal lines continue right tot the top where a two-tier hat closure adds texture where there’s been none before. This Double Decker hat top adds real interest to the top of hats. And let’s not forget the horizontal contrast created by the Duality Cast On. The pattern includes separate tutorials for all three of these straight forward modifications of existing techniques.
The Vortex Hat it the first in a trio of hat patterns highlighting the Showy & Subtle Decreases. The second, the Rip Cord Hat works with vertical Showy Decreases and the third, the Yosemite Dome Hat, uses Subtle Decreases to update the simple rib hat. This is the easiest of the three.
