Viva is worked back and forth in garter stitch from the bottom up. The shawl begins with a series of picots, in a long chain, then stitches are picked up into each picot. You will not fasten off the final stitch after working your picot chain, instead, this counts as the first of two stitches when picking up stitches on the following row to work the body.

Once the stitches are picked up, a lace border and decreases are worked on either edge and at the center to shape the shawl. After the lace border is complete, the remainder of the shawl is worked in garter stitch. Once complete, the neck is finished by joining the remaining selvedge stitches with a three needle bind off.

The lace portion is charted.
