Vigée was inspired by Junkyarn’s beautiful yarns, which are all named after women! Drawn to the lovely pinks and peaches of the colorway “Marie Antoinette” I decided to name this pattern after Madame Vigée Le Brun, Marie Antoinette’s official portrait painter. Madame Le Brun painted Marie Antoinette over 30 times, usually with flowers present from her famous gardens.

The Vigée cardigan uses a modular construction. First the collar is knit in a long rectangle using a modified garter stitch pattern, then stitches are picked up and another rectangle is knit for the back piece. Next the sides are seamed together, leaving space for the armholes. Last, stitches are picked up around the armholes and the sleeves are knit in stockinette stitch. The result is an open cardigan, with a relaxed fit that will be your new go-to shoulder cover for Spring and Summer.

US 6 - 4.0mm circular needle 16” or longer (for sleeves)

Gauge:
38sts x 16 rows = 4”-10cm over Modified Herringbone Garter Stitch using US 8-5.0mm needle, blocked.
20sts x 34 rows = 4”-10cm over stockinette stitch using US 6-4.0mm needle, blocked.

Note about swatching:
When swatching for the Modified Herringbone Garter Stitch it’s best to swatch the stitch without a traditional garter stitch edge in order to see your gauge clearly.
