The cuff of this ethnographic mitten from Cesvaine begins with a series of knit and purl rows (garter stitch) that dates to the 18th Century and makes for a firm cuff. There is a large overknit band that differientiates the cuff from the upper mitten. This band contains the Jumis symbol. While six colors are required for this mitten, only one or two are used contemporaneously.

Changes in needle size or yarn will alter the gauge: check your gauge in pattern before casting on.

Cesvaine site generally east of Riga.
