Vidlin is a small Scottish village on the Shetland Mainland, located at the head of a narrow seawater inlet. Its name comes from an Old Norse word that means a ford, or a shallow place in the inlet where one could cross. In my design, the inlet is represented by the wavy gold band placed between the repeats of the XO Fair Isle motifs. The cowl is knit in the round as a tube, and it is finished by joining the cast on and bound off edges using the mattress stitch. As only two colors are used on any round, this makes for a relatively simple, yet interesting project.
