After knitting, yarn is woven through dropped stitches that run the length of the table runner.

This design is the result of Cristina’s mad-scientist tinkering with the DNA of the table runner. That stitch the looks like weaving? It is weaving. You drop a stitch all the way down the runner, and then weave a contrasting yarn (we used linen, but coarse twine would be nice), potholder-loom style, back through the ladders of the dropped stitch. So simple, and such a nice break from, you know, knitting. ]
Materials:

  • 4 hanks Louet Euroflax Sport, 100% linen, 3.5 oz (100g), 270 yd (246m); 2 hanks aqua (Main color - MC), 1 hank each of brick (A) and mustard (B)
  • Size 2 (2.75mm) straight and circular needles, 32” (80cm), or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Tapestry needle

Difficulty: An easy, pretty stitch pattern and a field trip to weaving.

Note: “This runner would look great in many plant-based yarns, or combinations of yarns. Linen is a practical choice for the table because it washed and dries beautifully.”
