Veer Left
Veer Left is a striped elongated half hexagon shape in drapey, stretchy garter. It is designed to be knit on the go, with a short, easy to memorise sequence of rows which is repeated, gradually increasing the width of the shawl until a percentage of the yarn is used, at which point the knitting veers off to the left and decreases down to the far side.
Ideal for long colour run yarns, handspun, variegateds or striping yarns, try striping a variegated against a solid, or try two complementary solids for bolder stripes..
Knitting by the seat of your pants 1 is a collection of mostly garter projects in a variety of shapes, focussing on simple yet interesting 4 row construction, which is easily memorised so you don’t need to carry the pattern around with you all the time.
Each of these patterns can be worked entirely from the written pattern, or from the chart with notes.
Gauge is not critical with this project. This page lists 6mm needles, which is what the green sample used, but please adjust your needle size to suit your own yarn. This design is suited to a range of weights from fingering to worsted, and adaptable to any yardage.
The sideways construction of this design makes the sizing very adaptable. Start at one corner and knit until you reach the turning point of your yarn..
Please note the garter edge in the green sample has been changed to a slipped stitch edge, as shown in the turquoise/olive sample (which is a different, but related design).
