Vauxhall is located near the centre of London, and was site to an ancient bridge built during the Bronze Age to cross the Thames. Just across the river from MI6 headquarters, a series of wooden posts are visible during low tide.
These socks are designed to play nicely with self-striping yarn, and they knit up surprisingly fast. It is also nicely suited for the discerning male sock recipient, or those who appreciate a more subtle design. The socks feature garter zig-zags down the leg and foot, and a reverse stockinette heel. The best part? No stitches to pick up!
The Aston Project was named in honour of Prof. Mick Aston, a regular member of Channel Four’s Time Team. As I watched episode after episode of Mick wearing all sorts of stripy jumpers, gloves and hats, the concept for the project came to me: sock patterns made just for self-striping yarn!
Vauxhall was featured on Time Team in season 9, episode 1: London’s First Bridge.
About sizing: the stitch counts for the three available sizes are 60, 68, 76 sts. The smallest size fits a 7.5-8-inch diameter foot nicely.
