A simple knit (if you can kinit in the round)that looks SO much harder than it is. Quick. Warm. Impressive. Who doesn’t want all that?
When I need a last minute gift, I always turn to thick, smooshy yarns. The Valor Beanie (along with the matching cowl and snood; patterns available separately) is one that I’ve made a few times this year and because it is satisfyingly fast to make, I thought that you might want to make one (or more) yourself.
An added bonus is that this beanie uses very little yarn so its perfect for those odd balls or even oddments of yarn (think multi-coloured stripes). The name of the beanie? Well, the super-easy slipstitch V’s always make me think of the word ‘Valor’ (and the quote at the end of this pattern).
SHAPE:
The Valor Beanie is a generously-sized two colour slipstitch hat anchored by a twisted rib border. Two different colourways are used but just one colour is worked per row meaning that the Valor Beanie is quick and easy to make.
DIFFICULTY:
EASY (you will need to be able to knit in the round)
SKILLS REQUIRED:
-knit in the round (magic loop or DPNs)
-knit through the back loop
-purl
-slip a stitch
-decrease (ssk)
FINISHED DIMENSIONS:
-One size fits most to a head circumference of approx 60.9cm/24” and is on the larger side.
-Ribbed border width: 26cm/9” approx.
-Ribbed border height: 5.5cm/ 2.1” approx.
-Height from crown to opening: 23cm/9” approx.
YARN:
MC: 1 x Drops Snow (50m each).
CC: 1 x Drops Snow (50m each).
Alternatively use Wool and the Gang Crazy Sexy Wool (you will need approx 50m of each colour, so one ball of each)
Any yarn 5-6wpi or 8mm needle stated on ball band
NEEDLE SIZE:
US 10.5 (6.5mm) circular needles; 32” (80cm)
US 15 (10mm); circular needles; 32” (80cm)
Alternatively use DPNs in the above sizes
GAUGE:
10 sts x 16 rows unblocked (10cm square) in stockinette in the round. If you get gauge but prefer a slightly smaller beanie then you could try going down a half size on each of the recommended needles but this will result in a firmer hat.
NOTIONS:
stitch marker, tape measure, tapestry needle, scissors
