Valo is a bias triangle shawl with garter stitch and beautiful lace that looks more complex than it is.

The lace is worked on the right side only, with no purling. All you need is one skein of fingering weight yarn.

Valo (vuh-law) means light in Finnish. After the long winter, a season of hibernation and rest, the light finally arrives, awakening the season of rejuvenation and bloom.

YARN
One skein of Handu Ilun Sinkku (100% merino wool; 366 m / 400 yds per 100 g).

Or approximately 366 m / 400 yds of similar fingering weight yarn.

NEEDLES
Size 4 mm / US 6 needles

Always adjust needle size to obtain pattern gauge. Gauge affects the finished size and the amount of yarn needed.

This shawl is worked flat, but I recommend using 80-100 cm / 32-40 inch circular needles to accommodate the growing number of stitches.

It’s easy to modify the size to your liking. Simply work the pattern repeat until you reach your desired size or run out of yarn.

ssk: slip, slip, knit; slip one stitch knitwise, slip another stitch knitwise, knit the two slipped stitches together through back loops

yo: yarn over
