The first time I saw her designs it was love at first sight, I couldn’t stop thinking about her berets, so I had to recreate one by knitting.

CONSTRUCTION
Usagi is worked from the bottom-up in the round.
It starts with a 1x1 rib, decorated with a mohair lace edge.
Once the edge is bound off, stitches are picked up with the main yarn from behind to knit the base of the beret in stockinette stitch, followed by simple decreases to shape the crown.
After the base is finished, decorative elements are added: a heart-shaped mohair lace edge at the top, a mohair bow in the middle and 2 bunny ears.
For the heart-shaped lace edge stitches are picked up following a template and repeating the previous steps for the lace edge.
The little bow is made by a rectangle tied onto itself and sewn on the center of the beret.
Finally, the bunny ears are worked from the bottom-up in the round and finished with another lace edge, then sewn to the beret.

YARN

• Yarn A: Revesderecho Merino (100% Merino wool; Sport weight; 174m / 190yds per 50g skein). 2 to 3 skeins in color Lila 0021 or approx between 348m / 380 yds and 522m / 570yds of sport weight yarn.
• Yarn B: Revesderecho Kid Mohair (74% Mohair, 26% Silk; Lace weight; 213m / 232yds per 25g skein). 1 skein in color Smokey Eyes 002 or approx 213m / 232yds of lace weight yarn.

GAUGE

• 25 sts x 33 rows = 10cm / 4″, worked in the round with Yarn A using 3,5mm / US 4 needles in stockinette stitch, measured after blocking.
• 25 sts x 12 rows = 7.5cm x 3cm / 3″ x 1 ¼″, worked in the round with Yarn A using 3mm / US 2 ½ needles in 1x1 ribbing, measured after blocking without stretching, when stretched it should measure approximately 12-13cm / 5″ width.
• 18 sts x 6 rows = 5cm x 2.5cm / 2″ x 1″, worked flat with Yarn B using 3mm / US 2 ½ needles in lace stitch (see chart on page 7), measured after blocking.

NEEDLES

• 3.5mm / US 4 needles, 50cm / 20″ and 80cm / 32″ length.
• 3mm / US 2½ needles, 50cm / 20″ length.
• Optional: DPN’s or needles suitable for working small circumferences.

Always use the needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

NOTIONS
Tapestry needle, scissors, small crochet hook (2-3mm / US B-D), 12 stitch markers (one unique), scrap yarn.

Cuando vi sus diseños fue amor a primera vista, no podía dejar de pensar en sus boinas y tuve que replicar una en versión tejida.

CONSTRUCCIÓN
Usagi se teje desde abajo hacia arriba en redondo.
Comienza con la pretina en punto elástico 1x1, a partir de la cual se trabaja un borde decorativo en punto encaje con mohair, que se cierra antes de continuar.
Luego, se levantan puntos con el hilado principal para tejer la estructura base de la boina en punto jersey, y se realizan disminuciones simples hasta cerrarla por completo.
Una vez finalizada la base, se agregan los elementos decorativos: corazón, lazo y orejas.
Para el corazón se levantan puntos siguiendo una plantilla y se teje un nuevo borde en punto encaje con mohair que sigue esta forma.
Para el lazo se teje un rectángulo con mohair que se anuda sobre sí mismo, y se cose al centro de la boina.
Finalmente, se tejen dos orejas de conejo desde abajo hacia arriba en redondo, y se finalizan con un borde de mohair en punto encaje, luego se cosen a la boina.

HILADO

• Color 1: Revesderecho Merino (100% Merino; Grosor Sport; 174m en 50g). 2 o 3 ovillos en color Lila 0021 o aprox entre 348m y 522m de hilado grosor sport.
• Color 2: Revesderecho Kid Mohair (74% Mohair, 26% Seda; Grosor Lace; 213m en 25g). 1 ovillo en color Smokey Eyes 002 o aprox 213m de hilado grosor lace.

MUESTRA

• 25 pts x 33 vueltas = 10cm, tejida en redondo con Color 1 y palillos de grosor 3,5mm en punto jersey, medida después de bloquear.
• 25 pts x 12 vueltas = 7.5cm x 3cm, tejida en redondo con Color 1 y palillos de grosor 3mm en punto elástico 1x1, medida después de bloquear SIN ESTIRAR, al estirarse debería llegar a medir aprox 12cm o 13cm de ancho.
• 18 pts x 6 vueltas = 5cm x 2.5cm, tejida plana con Color 2 y palillos de grosor 3mm en punto encaje, medida después de bloquear.

PALILLOS

• Palillo de grosor 3.5mm, cable de 50 y 80cm.
• Palillo de grosor 3mm, cable de 50cm.
• Opcional: palillos de doble punta para trabajar circunferencias pequeñas.

Escoge siempre el grosor de palillo que necesites para obtener la muestra.

OTROS MATERIALES
Aguja de lana, tijeras, crochet delgado (2 o 3mm), 12 marcadores de punto (uno diferente), hilado de descarte en un color contrastante a C1 (aprox 50cm).
