The name of this hat is a play on words combining the inspiration for the main motifs and the construction methods.

The motifs are knitted interpretations of classic Baroque designs, particularly the gold leaf scrollwork found in 17th century Italian cathedrals and chapels. Versace and Bernini come to mind. The hat is knitted in the round from the bottom up in an “unbroken” fashion.

The motifs are asymmetrical and therefore, take a bit more concentration than classic symmetrical Fair Isle designs. To help with this possible confusion, darker lines have been placed on the charts every 18 stitches to indicate suggestions for marker placements. My suggestions is to use the lines and markers as “reality checks” to keep you place in the larger motifs.

A little bit of extra effort, but the results are lovely…at least I think so.

22 in. (56 cm) around base, 12.5 in. (32 cm) bottom to top. (Note: Use larger needles for larger size.)

Shade E – Mioget – 118 yds

Needles - US 1 (2.25 mm) and US 3 (3.25 mm) needles for preferred method of working small circumferences (i.e. 2 circulars, Magic Loop, or double pointed needles).

Stitch markers, Locking stitch markers (6),Tapestry needle, Small Scissors.
