Umbriel Hat
What’s better than a free hat pattern? 12 more free hat patterns! Our popular Year of Hats is back, featuring Germantown DK.
February’s design is Umbriel by Courtney Kelley. The astute among you may recognize it as a finer weight version of her very popular Wister Hat from our Year of Bulky Hats! Umbriel begins with a classic long tail cast on, a simple spiral slip stitch pattern is worked for the body, and integrated decreases shape the crown. As will our other hats, a pom pom tops it all off and a custom KW tag completes the look.
Buy a kit from our site or ask for it at your favorite LYS!
Worthy of Note
This gorgeously textured hat is worked in the round from the bottom up.
Slip all stitches purlwise with yarn in back.
On round 7 of the stitch pattern, and rounds 3, 7, and 9 of the decrease section, you will need to remove the marker in order to work the cable cross over the beginning of the round. Follow the instructions in the pattern carefully.
Move the work to double pointed needles when there are too few stitches to fit around your circulars comfortably. Place a marker on the work between the first and last needles to mark your beginning of the round.
