It is knit in the round using double pointed needles (dpns) and fingering weight yarn such as leftover stash sock yarn. The tail is knit first as an i-cord and then the stitches begin to increase as the body continues on. The separate ears begin with a Turkish Cast-On (or any cast on method that a knitter might use for toe up socks). This will create nice double thickness ears with stockinette stitch on both side, and they will be sturdy.
