Two Grey Hills Hat
This hat is a spin off of my “Rug Weaver’s Headband.” The motifs are similar to those on the headband which I based off of Two Grey Hills Navajo weavings.
Skills Required
Cast on, knit, purl, decreasing, working in the round on circular needles, working from charts, stranded colorwork, small circumference knitting.
Size
Adult Medium (Large).
Finished measurements after blocking
Circumference (unstretched): 19 (21)” / 48 (53) cm
Height from brim to top: 8” / 20 cm
Gauge
23 sts and 26 rounds = 4 inches in charted pattern
Needles
US Size 3 (3.25 mm), 16” circular needles or one size smaller than gauge needle.
US Size 4 (3.5 mm), 16” circular needles or needles used to achieve gauge.
US Size 4 (3.5 mm) double pointed needles or long circular for magic loop.
Approximate Yardage and Yarn
Skagit Woolen Works Pastoral (DK weight; 100% Skagit Valley East Friesian wool; 150 yards/60 g)
MC: Kinnikinnick; 1 skein or approximately 100 (130) yards / 91 (119) meters
CC: Birch; 1 skein or approximately 60 (80) yards / 55 (73) meters
OR the same yardage of DK-weight yarn in two highly contrasting colors.
