“One of the most popular patterns in our recent history, Annie Modesitt’s twisted-float shrug (featured on our Fall 2005 cover) still floats our boat in two alternating down-to-earthy colorways of Lorna’s Laces’ ‘Shepherd Worsted’ (the piece is piped with ‘Grace’ mohair). The unusual construction calls for the body to be worked in the round form the center out in a twisted-float garter pattern. It’s designed to be worn two ways: longer, as originally shown, or upside down, for this shorter look.”

• One set (5) dpn and circular needles 16”/40cm, 24”/60cm and 32”/80cm long all in size 8 (5mm) or size to obtain gauge

• Stitch markers (7 plus 1 contrasting)

Notes: When working increases between markers, be sure to stagger the increases so they do not lay on top of each other from rnd to rnd. Sweater body is worked from the center of the back out to the front edge. Armholes are marked with waste yarn, which is removed when the sleeves are picked up and worked to the cuffs. The garment can be worn as a shrug, with the sleeve to the bottom for a shorter, wide-collared look, or with the sleeves to the top for a more fitted jacket look. Fold the outer edge back at the lapel rnd for collar. The small opening on the back formed by joining the work may be closed by gathering the sts on a piece of B or by darning with B.
