Twice-Felted Goldilocks Bowls
Goldilocks wouldn’t have been wandering aimlessly around the forest invading the homes of hapless bears if she’d had a nice, productive hobby like knitting! This set of three nesting bowls uses only one skein of yarn and makes the perfect holiday decoration or quick gift. Felt them first in the washer and again by embellishing with needle felting. Whatever the occasion, they’ll be juuuuuust right…
Yarn: Approx 160 yds worsted weight wool yarn (not superwash) makes all three bowls. Pictured in Brown Sheep Company Lanaloft Worsted (100% wool; 160 yds per 100 g) colorway Cherry Splash. Large (Medium, Small) = Apprx 80 yds (55 yds, 20 yds).
Needles: US 10.5 (6.5 mm) needles for knitting in the round (set of double-pointed, two circulars, or one longer circular for magic loop method), or size needed to obtain gauge.
Notions: Darning needle, stitch marker (optional), garment bag for felting (optional). Also, roving and needle felting needle if you’d like to add optional embellishments.
Gauge: 14 stitches and 20 rows in stockinette over 4 inches. Fabric will seem quite loose to allow for shrinking during felting.
Skill level: This enthusiastic beginner pattern is worked in the round from the rim down.
Size: Bowls will vary significantly after felting, but very approximate sizes are:
Large: 6” wide by 5” tall before felting. 5.5” wide by 3” tall after felting.
Medium: 4.5” wide by 4.75” high before felting. 4” wide by 2.75” tall after felting.
Small: 3” wide by 4.5” high before felting. 2.5” wide by 2.5” tall after felting
