Tweel is the original Scottish word for tweed. The spelling changed in 1826 when a London merchant misread the word. The change caught on and today, we talk of tweed patterns world-wide. The name for this hat is a nod to my Scottish heritage on my mother’s side. The hat is worked in the round from the bottom up and uses a provisional cast-on to enable a folded ‘tweel’ pattern brim, while the hat body is worked in stockinette stitch. Hat instructions are written; the tweed slip stitch pattern is written and charted. All chart rounds are worked from right to left.
