Tutorial - Intarsia in the Round
From time to time, we find ourselves knitting multi-color things in the round where there are several rounds where either one color appears only on the front or back side of the object, or where it appears in one small area surrounded by large areas without that color in play. For example, a color that appears on the back of the hand, and not on the palm in a mitten, or the top of the foot but not the sole in a sock, or in an intarsia pattern, where shapes and colors can be far apart. While it is always possible to simply carry the yarn all the way around until you reach the place where you need it again, that uses up a lot of yarn to no purpose. Luckily, there is another (albeit rather fiddly) way.
This method, which is worked over two rounds, works well in stranded patterns and intarsia in the round.
