Turicum Shawl
This shawl won first prize in the design contest held by the Knitting Guild Association in 2017 for new designers.
The inspiration for this shawl came from a newsletter published by The Knitting Guild Association. The July 2017 edition featured an article on TNNA talking about trends for the coming season, predicted by Vogue and Vogue Knitting. After reading the article, I wanted to design something “trendy” and eventually came up with this design. The shawl combines several predicted trends such as asymmetrical shape, stripes, beads, fringe and sparkle.
Knitting stripes usually means that there are a lot of yarn ends to weave in. In this shawl, you use them to your advantage and simply secure them with two different knots to turn them into a fringe.
The size of the shawl is easily adjustable. Keep on knitting stripes until you run out of yarn. Make sure to count in extra beads. Choose two yarn colors that are strong in contrast and match the bead color to your contrasting color.
Rotate the shawl 90 degrees to the left. It resembles the design of the coat of arms of my home town of Zürich, Switzerland. Turicum is the Latin name of the city that played an important role in Roman times.
