In early autumn, the vegetation on the tundra of the Canadian arctic turns glorious shades of red and burgundy. A wonderful sense of peace and relaxation can be found by sitting quietly on a glacial erratic watching caribou or just enjoying the vastness of the arctic desert landscape.

These socks were inspired by an autumn camping and hiking trip on the tundra north of Yellowknife. Just like the tundra, they appear deceptively simple but closer examination reveals hidden depth and complexity.

These socks are worked from the top down. The pattern includes charted stitch patterns and written instructions.

Skills/Techniques Required:

  • Basic sock knitting skills
  • Following charted stitch patterns
  • Cables
  • Grafting using kitchener stitch
