This pattern is an adaptation of the well-known quilt design, the Tumbling Blocks. This is a simplified version, made with Diagonal Half Solid Granny Squares and the Join-As-You-Go technique. No sewing together a thousand diamonds!

Use a combination of light and dark shades of the same colour to create the 3D effect. In the sample I used 6 colours of Stylecraft Special DK, with a light and dark shade of each colour.
