I have created this shawl pattern as a great way to learn brioche increases, as well as broaden your horizons with a bit of brioche texture. If you would like a more enhanced version of the pattern, as well as videos teaching you the techniques found in this pattern, please sign up for my online course, Mastering Brioche with Knit Graffiti! You can sign up for the entire course, which consists of 4 Parts, or sign up for Part Two by itself. If you are already signed up for the online course, this pattern is part of the course materials for Part Two!
Spincycle Yarns has some fab kits available, here!!
Skill level: Beginner to Intermediate. Again, this is a fantastic pattern for any brioche beginners wanting to take your techniques to a higher level! Techniques used: knit, purl, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), brioche increases, Two-Color Pearl Brioche texture, half-circle shawl shaping.
Construction Notes: This shawl is a great way to learn how to increase stitches in brioche knitting! I designed this shawl especially for learning them, as well as adding a little bit of brioche texture to your long list of techniques. This half circle shawl is knit flat, from the top center, outward. The Pi shawl shaping technique, a la Elizabeth Zimmerman, which begins with very few stitches, doubles the stitch count at larger and larger intervals (i.e.: after 3 rows, then 6 rows, then 12 rows, etc.) to achieve its overall half-circle shape. You will be switching between working stripes of Two-Color Brioche and Two-Color Pearl Brioche, which is my absolute favorite brioche texture!! It is worked similarly to even Two-Color Brioche, but the “sl1yof / yf sl1yo” will only be worked using your Contrast Color yarn, causing them to look like little birds in flight on the Main Side of your shawl. So fascinating!! You will end the shawl with a scalloped border, which will have a mixture of the two stitch patterns.
