The central motif in this unusual block is a triquetra, an unbroken line forming three overlapping loops. It’s a well-known and often-used shape in Celtic culture, and any number of meanings have been ascribed to it over the centuries. The mystique surrounding this shape continues to this day. This intermediate/advanced level pattern makes use of foundation double crochet and non-standard stitch placement, such as long stitches worked into previous rounds, and working into the back bar (the loop behind the back horizontal loop) to create a chain effect on the surface of the fabric.

The pictured block was made using four colors of Red Heart Super Saver Solids yarn and the pattern includes instructions for using four colors. If you decide to change the color placement or number of colors used, remember to place a marker in the last stitch of the round to help you find your place when starting the next round. American crochet terminology is used in this pattern.

Yarn: 60-65 grams of Red Heart Super Saver aran weight yarn in four colors of your choice. The sample used Coral (Color A), Real Teal (Color B), Jade (Color C), and Aran (Color D).

Materials:
Hook: H/8/5 mm
Stitch markers or waste yarn for marking stitches
Tapestry needle

Gauge: 13 dc (worked under both top loops) and 7 rows = 4 inches
