This modern granny square combines pretty puff stitches with traditional granny trebles. It would be perfect as part of a blanket or throw, or even on its own as a coaster.

The pattern makes a 4x4-inch square, but this can easily be sized up using either a larger hook than stated (try 3.5 mm) or by adding several more rounds of granny trebles.

I’ve used Natura Just Cotton in Jade/Blue Jeans/Brique/Amaranto as the contrast colour and Ivory, Gris Argent and Aswan as the neutral colours (less than 1 skein required for each). By using 100% cotton yarn, the resulting square is durable and can be machine washed.
