In Scots, trintle can mean to flow, to spin, or to gad about. This cosy hat, with its sinuous, flowing lines, is good for gadding about in.

Gauge-size circular needle (40cm / 16in) for hat body

Gauge
Small: 25 sts and 32 rounds to 10cm / 4in over stranded colourwork using gauge-size needle (blocked). Use 3.5mm needle as a starting point for swatching.
Medium: 23 sts and 29 rounds to 10cm / 4in over stranded colourwork using gauge-size needle (blocked). 4mm needle as a starting point for swatching.
Check your gauge, especially if yours tends to tighten when working stranded colourwork.

Sizes
Small: to fit head with 50-52cm / 19½-20½in circumference
Medium: to fit head with 53-56cm / 21-22in circumference
Be sure to check your gauge, and block finished hat appropriately.
