Trickle Scarf
A straightforward garter-stitch scarf, worked sideways, with contrasting short-row accents. A good pattern for an initial venture into short rows. Because the scarf is worked sideways, there are a lot of stitches per row. I would recommend using a circular needle of 24”/60 cm or longer to knit this.
As written, the pattern will produce a lightweight scarf approximately 5” wide by 6 feet long. However, by varying the number of stitches cast on, the number of garter ridges in each main-color stripe, or the weight and gauge of the yarn used, the size and texture of the scarf can be varied almost infinitely.
The sample used between 350 and 400 yards of the main color and about 50 yards of the contrast color, in laceweight yarn.
