Tributary Hat
This hat originally came from me playing around with different cable swatches. I loved this one so much; I wanted to feature it on something!
This hat was originally designed for a friend of mine who wears winter caps over visors and baseball caps, so I wanted a hat design that had enough positive ease to accommodate that. After some experimentation, this hat was born!
The cable band is knit first, working flat, and using an optional provisional cast on. The hat is then picked up from both edges of the cable band to form the ribbing and the crown of the hat.
The sample was knit in Queensland Collection Kathmandu Aran 100, which is a blend of 85% Merino, 10% Silk, and 5% Cashmere. If you’re substituting yarns, I’d suggested a merino or merino/silk blend.

Pattern Notes:
This pattern has written instructions, and the stitch pattern is both written and charted.
Also please note that if you are a loose knitter, or are enlarging the pattern in any way, you may require an additional skein of recommended yarn. The sample was made with 1 skein with only 14 yards remaining.
Techniques Used:

optional provisional cast on
Kitchener stitch/grafting
working cables with a cable needle
working in the round
Pattern Usage:
