Inspired by the vibrant plumage of the Common Loon (also known as the Great Northern Diver), the Tremolo hat features stranded colourwork in the striking hues of this iconic Northern American bird. During breeding season, the loon habitats the lakes and waterways of northern America and Canada, and can often be found in Greenland and Iceland too! Known for its distinctive checkerboard patterning and unusual vocalisations (wailing tremolos, hoots and yodels) the loon is one of the most loved animals of the north.

The Tremolo Hat is worked in the round, from the bottom up, with three sizes available – child, adult small and adult large. The pattern is written for the magic loop method, but could be easily adapted for dpns if preferred.

Yarns used for the sample are Cascade 220 Fingering in both Black and White, and Madeline Tosh Euro Sock in ‘Esoteric’; although any fingering weight yarn can be substituted to suit your own palette and style!
