I was honoured to have been asked to design a shawl to go along with the June 2019 instalment of the Indie Project collaboration being run by Lavender Lune Yarn Co. For the month of June two indie dyers (Lavender Lune Yarn Co & Six and Seven Fiber) dyed yarns using the same inspiration photo and came up with two fantastic colour-ways that paired amazingly well together.

So when I was asked to design something with these yarns I knew it had to be a shawl that incorporated some colour play.

I landed on the idea of combining the Mosaic knitting technique with some simple cables to create this trellis effect in the finished shawl and I love how that works to really make the blue colours pop against the softer speckled colourway.

What you will need:

Yarn – 200gm Fingering Weight Yarn (1x100gm in each of two colours)- Yarn used in sample is the June Indie Along Colourways by Lavender Lune Yarn Co (Azul - Blue Tonal) and Six & Seven Fiber (Speckled) – both on a 100% Superwash Merino Singles Base (400yd/366m per 100gm)

Needles – 3.5mm (US 4) needles on a Long Cable to accommodate all the stitches.

Notions – 3 Stitch Markers. I would also suggest a progress keeper for the first section to help keep track of the right side of your work. Cable needle (Optional as the cables can be worked without a cable needle as well)

Gauge – Approx 24 sts / 4 inches in garter stitch after gentle blocking (although gauge is really not too important with this shawl as long as you are liking the fabric you are getting).

Finished Size of Shawl – 183cm (72 inches) on the longest edge & 63.5cm (25 inches) at the deepest point.
