If anyone is lucky enough to have a first edition of Knitting in America, one of the stitch pattern mosaic graphs on pg 212 has an extra line which has been corrected in subsequent printings. Tahki Chelsea Silk has been discontinued after many years of availability. I’m not sure if Tweedy Lamb is still available either. But any worsted weight yarn could be substituted and sizing can be adjusted in the side panels.

Pattern description from Knitting in America: “For this project, Lynne decided to make a simple version of Tree of Life Mosaic Jacket using Tahki’s Tweedy Lamb and Chelsea Silk. She did, however, want to include in this book an example of her more complex work - thus the multicolored, handspun version also show here. The jacket is constructed by knitting basic body panels of mosaic knitting and then picking up selvage stitches to knit perpendicular panels. This style of construction allows for the use of complex shapes within the design with a minimum of sewing afterward. Much of the finishing work is done in the knitting itself. The multicolored Tree of Life Mosaic Jacket can never be repeated exactly, as it was made with an assortment of mostly handspun wool, mohair, silk, and angora, some of which Lynne dyed herself, some of which she purchased from other sources, including Sandy Sitzman and La Lana Wools. Since the multicolored version was made in basically that same way as the black-and-white version created for this book (see left), advanced knitters who do not want to add color by simply choosing additional shaded of the Tahki yarn called for in the pattern can use the pattern on page 211 as a basic guide, making their own personal and creative fiber choices.”

• Ten 1.75oz / 50g skeins (each approx 104 yd / 95m) of Tahki’s Tweedy Lamb in #1911 Black (A)
• Two skeins #1915 Soft Red (C)
• One skein #1922 Violet (D)
• Ten 1.75oz / 50g skeins (each approx 106yd / 96m) of Tahki’s Chelsea Silk in #111 natural (B)
• One pair size 9 knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge
• Size 9 circular needle 29” long
• Size F crochet hook
• One double-pointed needle (dpn), size 7
• Tapestry needle
• Waste yarn to use in casting on and holding sts
