Traigh

Combining a very old nineteenth-century lace edging with a contemporary shallow crescent shape, the undulating edge of this simple-to-knit summer shawl suggests waves across a beach or shoreline - a Gaelic word for which is Traigh.

When washed and blocked,
14 sts and 34 rows (17 ridges) to 10cm / 4in over garter st using gauge-size needle
Gauge was achieved with 3.75mm / US 5 needle
Gauge is not crucial in this pattern. However, unless gauge is measured and matched on a swatch that has been washed and blocked as you would block the shawl additional yarn may be required to complete your shawl.

Pattern notes
The lace edging is created first, as one long strip. Stitches are then picked up from the centre of the lace edge, and each row is worked outwards, picking up stitches progressively along the long edge of the lace to create an elegant curved shape. The top edge is finished with a neat stretchy bind off and the whole hap is blocked to size.
