Traditional Neckties
Interweave SKU: EP0965
Variations given in this pattern: straight tie, pointed tie, Fair Isle tie, embossed diamonds tie
Pattern description from Interweave Knits, Winter 2004:
Shirley Paden dissected a couple of her husband’s silk neckties to devise the quintessential pattern for two knitted versions - one with squared ends, the other with the more familiar points. Both styles are knitted flat on two needles, then folded and seamed along the center back. Once you understand the flow of the basic patterns, it’s a small matter to add a little color or texture. We were so taken with the concept that we chose ties for our staff project. Turn to page 83 to see our interpretations of the traditional (and not-so-traditional) necktie.

Notes from Interweave Knits, Winter 2004:
- “Begin by knitting a swatch for gauge (at least 4” [10-cm] square). Re-check the gauge after you have finished about 6” (15 cm) and check your row gauge again after you have worked 5” (12.5 cm) of the neckband, making adjustments if your gauge has changed.”
- “Work all decreases in MC for Fair Isle tie.”
- “On schematics, measurements are given for St st versions followed by measurements for patterned versions in parentheses.”
