Notes From the Designer:

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - H. Jackson Brown Jr.

Jane was inspired by this quote and says, “I love the essence of this quote and think that we should all try to challenge ourselves to try new things. It also seems very appropriate, as this yarn has me dreaming of sparkling turquoise waters somewhere in a tropical paradise.”

This project utilizes a simple technique that may be used to produce a wide variety of effects. By using 3 different yarns and crocheting just one row with each, the correct yarn is always where it needs to be to work the next row. The yarns may be different colors and different weights. In this design, we chose 3 different yarns that are all in the same color. With the addition of a few crocheted i-cords and/or well placed seams, this may be worn as a scarf, shawl, cowl, 2 styles of poncho, head scarf, and shrug. The stitch pattern is very easy to work and produces a soft, stretchy fabric.

  • Click here to learn how to crochet the pattern and the i-cords.
  • Gauge is not crucial to this project, and the pattern is easily adjustable, but will affect yardage and size.
  • Pattern uses three different yarn weights but can be made with more or fewer if preferred.
  • Three different yarns (A, B, C) are used by crocheting 1 row in each yarn. They may be used in any order that you choose. For the model, the fdc on was done with Resilient Sock, followed by Sparkle Dk and then Pearlescent Fingering.
  • Make sure to carry the non-working yarn up in the last stitch and turning chain, so as not to have loose yarn along the outside edge, as show in this video.
