As is traditional in Estonian and Shetland lace, this scarf is knit in garter stitch and is full of texture & optimism while also being reversible. The scarf is completed by adding a knitted on lace edging to both ends. A wonderful choice to show your year round support for any cancer, disease or syndrome with a colored ribbon devoted to its cause, it is also perfectly suited to display your support and loyalty to our men and women in uniform.

The sample was done with less than one skein of Nature Spun fingering but any fingering weight will do. The pattern lends itself best to solid or tonal yarns and may get lost in a heavily verigated yarn. This pattern would also be gorgeous in laceweight though keep your yardage in mind when making these adjusments.

When I started writing this pattern I realized this design could represent not only breast cancer but also any cancer, disease or syndrome that has a colored ribbon devoted to it. And let’s face it folks, there are ribbons everywhere, for all sorts of things and not just during the month of October. Everyone either knows someone who is fighting or is fighting some kind of battle themselves. Let us not forget those in all branches of the military, retired or active, serving at home or abroad. This scarf knit in yellow can say what words cannot. For your convenience I included a list of the most commonly seen colored ribbons and the cancer, disease or awareness most often associated with that color.
