To-A-Tee Knit Bath Mat
About The Design:
Many years ago, I hand spun white and natural brown cotton, then wove bath mats using the yarn as weft on an 8/4 cotton warp. These mats have been used constantly, are machine washed and dried, yet are still going strong, but I wanted to spruce up our bathrooms’ decor, with something new and different!
This is a quick and easy-to-knit garter stitch bath mat, edged in I-cord. I love how I-cord finishes edges.
I used Hoooked Ribbon XL and Zpagetti t-shirt yarns, although you can substitute your own handmade t-shirt yarn, if you have enough t-shirts on hand to recycle, which we never seem to have enough of!
I’ve included notes on sizing (with instructions on the 2 sizes I made), and notes about the attributes of these two popular t-shirt yarns, as these yarns are basically mill ends, so their thickness/grist and texture varies with each production run of t-shirts.
What I love about these mats – they have heft, so they stay put, and the garter stitch fabric is cushiony under foot. I am liking these mats so much, I may knit a larger one, to stand on, at the kitchen sink!
