The lace design of this pillow is based on a classic pattern called Spanish Lace Stitch, by Mon Tricot in its circa 1963 Stitch Dictionary: 800 Stitches Patterns, or Frost Flowers by Barbara Walker in her Treasury of Knitting Patterns (1968). The bending of the rows caused by the increases and decreases in the lace result in “petals” all around the pillow. As this design was coming together towards the summer solstice, and since the lace is so floral, I thought it was appropriate to name it for Titania, Queen of the Fairies, from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
