Tissot Bolero
This book is part of a collection, History on Two Needles by Annie Modesitt
Based on the 1864 painting Woman In Red by Tissot, this felted jacket features 3/4 open sleeves and a cabled / bobbled edge.
There are pieces of clothing that just shouldn’t work.
They’re a little oddball, a little over the top, but somehow the garment has such a sense of – belief – in itself that it makes a cohesive fashion statement.
This felted jacket is one of those.
The pattern shape is an oval, created using short row shaping.
Based on a short Zouave jacket, which is turn is inspired by military silhouettes of the period, the unselfconscious use of bobbles is what sets this garment apart from other pieces.
