Tisa, Kumi, Kumi na Moja Cool Weather Cowl
Tisa, kumi, and kumi na moja are the Kiswahili words for 9, 10, and 11, which refer to the stitch counts in the no-fold version. The number of single crochet stitches are increased to make the folded version. The shaping of this cowl is achieved by the progressive changes in stitches, from single crochet, to half double, then double crochet. Working in the back loops gives it its stretchy ribbing, increases the ease, and enhances the texture. Buttonholes and large buttons add the right touch, but using different bulky yarns, like tweeds, or carrying a strand of mohair make it even more interesting. Go ahead a make a few for the cool weather days that are sure to come.
