Tiny Rabbit Decoration
TINY RABBIT DECORATION
Make lots of giant things on your knitting machine? Time for something tiny?
I give instructions on how to make this tiny rabbit on a standard gauge Silver Reed machine with a ribber.
The rabbit’s head and body are knit as a tube, with the ears tube knitted at the top. The front legs and tail are knitted on as i-cord. The rest of the rabbit’s shaping comes in the (minimal) sewing up.
I really recommend felting your rabbit, as it helps to smooth over the simple shaping and gives your opportunity to mould your rabbit, making them look much neater and sweeter. I give instructions on how to hand felt. If you’re going felt your rabbit, you need to use 100% wool, non-superwash yarn (yarn care instructions should state handwash only). I’ve made these rabbits in Jamieson & Smith’s Heritage Naturals and Jamieson’s Spindrift, both Shetland wools of 3- or 4-ply (fingering) weight. They only take about 14m (16 yards) of yarn in total.
As well as yarn, you’ll also need a small amount of stuffing, a little embroidery thread for sewing the face and, optionally, a couple of little beads for the eyes.
Constructive criticism very welcome!
Please note that, even when unembellished, these tiny rabbits present a choke risk and are not a suitable toy for babies or small children
