This cardigan looks more complicated to make than it actually is…as the cardigan is basically three rectangles. The upper portion of the cardigan is created by two identical panels that are worked side to side from the sleeve edge toward the center. Foundation stitches are added to the sleeves to create the upper back and front. A simple shell stitch pattern that is repeated every row is used for the sleeves and upper body.

A waistband is picked at the bottom edge of the upper body pieces in hdc, and is shaped by strategically placed decreases. The sleeves are fashioned by gathering the edges and adding bands of hdc. Shells are crocheted along the edge of the waistband to create buttonholes, and a number of small buttons are sewn on for the final embellishment.
