Beginning with Elizabeth Zimmermann’s arch-shaped foot, with a dash of inspiration and guidance from Cat Bordhi’s unusual constructions, I conceived these socks for active feet. Yarn overs provide ventilation and stretch in the leg, and a thick, reinforced fabric provides support and cushioning for the foot. The dense foot will withstand the most punishing wear and tear. Although the construction is novel, these socks are easy to work and will provide an enjoyable knitting adventure for first-time sock knitters as well as lifelong sock-knitting fanatics.

Note: Noro Silk Garden sock is a sport weight. Knit with smaller needles, it will give you a tight gauge for these socks. The eyelets in the leg pattern give it a bit more stretch. Check your gauge and use the cast on # to fit your leg.
