Thousands - DK
Variegated yarns are very eye-catching, but never seem quite right on my children. I am always on the look out for ways to combine yarns which while stunning in their own right, can be overwhelming en masse. Thousands gives you the opportunity to combine those attractive variegated yarns with a more neutral colour for the majority of the knit.
Thousands is the comprehensive version of the free Hundreds pattern.
Thousands - DK comes written in 8 sizes (from small newborn to approximately 2 years of age), and is written for DK weight yarn.
Construction
Thousands has you cast on at the neckline, and work flat forming a rounded garter neck line, before working the colour work fronts, until you reach the required chest size. From here the arm stitches are put on to waste yarn (or a stitch holder), and the body finished. Once the body is completed, the sleeve stitches are returned to the needles and worked in the round.
The colourwork comes in both charted and written format.
Skills Required
- backwards loop cast on (for under the arms)
- knitting small circumferences in the round
- long tail cast on
- short rows in garter stitch
- simple colourwork
- working top down raglan construction
If you are not familiar with these techniques you may need to reference a knitting guide book, or view videos on the internet.
