The Winter Shawl
This pattern for The Winter Shawl is worked
back and forth in rows using the Pike Stitch which is a nice combination of the Extended Single Crochet
and a Chain. The Pike Stitch is very beautiful and looks the same on both sides of your work. The border
is worked back and forth using a Half Double Crochet and a Half Double Crochet in the Back Loop Only.
The border is made only on the top and bottom of the Winter Shawl (the entire length of the shawl from left to right and vice versa). Fringe is added to both sides (the entire width of the shawl from top to
bottom and vice versa). The pockets are worked back and forth using Half Double Crochet. A Tapestry
Needle or Crochet Needle is needed for some light sewing to attach the pockets. Stitch count is provided
in parentheses. When counting your stitches, DO NOT include the beginning chain of each row in your
total count. It’s extremely important to count your stitches as you work to make sure there is not a
variance from row to row.
The pattern I am providing is made specifically for a “Regular” Adult Size. It measures approximately 60”
total in length. This pattern is very customizable in size. Arm length can be used to determine the length
of the shawl and how many rows is needed to fit the wearer (measure fingertip to fingertip). Width is
customizable as well if the wearer requires a shawl that is not as wide. If adjusting the size of the width,
you will want to start with a smaller count of chain stitches. It’s important to make sure that the chain
count is odd and not even, so that the Pike Stitch can be worked appropriately.
